Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Oil Pan: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Remove the transmission. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
2. Drain the engine oil.

3. Remove thirteen oil pan bolts and remove the pan.
4. The gasket is reusable unless damaged. Do not remove the gasket from the oil pan groove unless replacement is required.

INSTALLATION
1. Install the new oil pan seal if required by starting the seal into the pan groove and working the seal into the groove in both directions. Once the seal is exposed to the oil it will expand and no longer stay in the groove without wrinkles. If this condition exists, replace it with a new seal.
2. Position the oil pan to the crankcase.

3. Install thirteen oil pan bolts. Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) in sequence shown.
4. Install the transmission. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
5. Refill the engine oil.
