Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Engine Coolant Temperature Warning (Medium Chime)

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) interprets engine coolant temperature through the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor. When the PCM determines that the coolant temperature has exceeded approximately 131°C (270°F) it sends a Class 2 engine over temperature message. When the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) receives this message, it displays the "STOP ENGINE-ENGINE OVERHEAD" message on the Drivers Information Center (DIC) and sends a Class 2 message requesting the Radio (IRC) to turn the chime "ON."
