Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Fuel Level Very Low Message

Fuel level is broadcast from the PZM to the IPC over the Class 2 serial data bus every half-second, on changes of 0.5 liter (.02 gallon) or on request from the IPC, with a resolution of .04 liter (0.01 gallon). If updates are not received, or a communication error is detected by the IPC, a digital gauge will be dashed, or the analog gauge will move to 'E'. If the fuel level drops below 4.5 liters (1.2 gallons) the 'FUEL LEVEL VERY LOW' will be displayed.

When the EEPROM Option Byte "C" is set to suppress low fuel warnings, the "Fuel Level Very Low" and "Check Fuel Gauge" driver warning messages will not be displayed. Also, on digital IPCs the fuel gage display will not flash "E" when the fuel level is very low. Instead, a solid "E" will be displayed. To verify proper vehicle configuration, refer to "IPC Diagnostic Parameters," specifically IPS02 (IPC EEPROM OPTION CONTENT).
