Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Transmission Fluid Pressure Manual Valve Position Switch ASSY

The Automatic Transmission Fluid Pressure Manual Valve Position Switch (TFP Val. Position Sw) assembly contains five pressure switch assemblies. These assemblies are normally open. The pressure switch assemblies are used to indicate the manual valve range of the transmission through the use of a binary code.

For each of the three PCM signal lines, the pressure switch produces either an open or a ground, depending on whether pressure is applied to the switch. The transmission range switch is attached to the valve body. The sequence of open and closed switches is used by the PCM to determine actual manual valve position. This input controls line pressure, TCC and the shift solenoid.

In order to monitor transmission range switch operation, the PCM compares actual voltage values to a combination chart stored in its memory. If the PCM does not recognize the transmission range switch sequence (voltage sequence) for the range selected, a code P1810 will result.
